Hugo Chávez Frias (nato a Sabaneta, il 28 luglio 1954) di quest’uomo rimarranno indimenticabili i lunghi pomeriggi domenicali di “Alò Presidente”, il programma trasmesso a reti unificate, nel corso del quale annunciava leggi e iniziative, blandiva ministri e collaboratori, sfidava nemici e avversari.

Identità storiche:                                                                                                                                                       Ispirandosi alla tragica parabola di Simon Bolivar, “el libertador” dell’America spagnola, Chávez ha attraversato, reinventando il populismo, oltre un decennio di Storia latinoamericana determinandola con la forza delle sue intuizioni e delle sue scelte. Persino delle sue “ricette” politiche che, magari riviste e corrette, hanno fatto scuola in molti paesi, dall’Ecuador all’Argentina, dal Nicaragua alla Bolivia.

La grande generosità:                                                                                                                                                   Senza freni Chávez ha cercato di estendere la sua egemonia “energetica” su centro e sud America proponendosi come modello unico a molti personaggi in cerca d’autore. Dalla precaria nuova Evita dell’Argentina a Evo, il presidente indio della Bolivia. Suo mentore e spesso, finché ne ha avuto le forze, suo stratega, è stato Fidel Castro che dopo anni di isolamento, post caduta del Muro e dell’Urss, aveva trovato in Chávez la capacità dissuasiva  –  milioni di barili di greggio  –  che dalla sua piccola e povera isola mai avrebbe immaginato di possedere. Così Chávez regalò petrolio al sindaco socialista per far viaggiare gli autobus di Londra o alla icona scolorita del fu esercito sandinista in Nicaragua, e dollari per la campagna elettorale di Cristina Kirchner in Argentina.

L’eredità storica:                                                                                                                                                         Giudicare oggi la profondità dei cambiamenti che è riuscito a realizzare non è facile. Bisognerà lasciar riposare tutta la sabbia alzata dalla propaganda, dalla sua straordinaria eloquenza e dall’infinita retorica, per valutare gli effetti del suo “socialismo” ma non c’è dubbio che nella sua prematura morte c’è un aspetto crudele. Il suo tormento per farsi perenne s’è scontrato con un male incurabile. Così quella di Chávez è un’altra rivoluzione interrotta, abbandonata ai suoi molto precari epigoni, che lo trasformerà in un altro immortale, in un’altra effige da t-shirt come Evita, il Che Guevara, o Perón.
