Twenty years of great previews: the 2013 Chianti Classico Collection at the Leopolda. I went to visit this event, I tried the wines, wineries and discovered new and interesting brands, talking to operators, sommeliers, producers. One area Italian excellence that makes us unique in the world.
There will be about 500 labels to be tasted among the latest Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva wines on the market, plus barrel previews of the 2012 vintage and the IGTs made in Black Rooster territory. The Leopolda will also host a presentation of the latest news from the DOCG, for which the members’ assembly has approved a revamping.
Twenty years have passed since the first “Chianti Classico Preview”. In 1993 only a few dozen wine writers attended the event – since renamed the “Chianti Classico Collection” – but the number of them registered for its twentieth edition demonstrates that it’s become one of the biggest draws on the international wine show calendar. From February 18 to 20 the lovely setting of the Stazione Leopolda in Florence will be welcoming some 200 accredited wine journalists from 29 different countries: Italy, Denmark, Spain, Germany, Great Britain, Poland, Serbia, Holland, the Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Ukraine, Finland, France, Belgium, Greece, Switzerland, Croatia,
the United States, Japan, Canada, China, South Korea, Australia, India, Israel and Brazil.
And over time the event has also become one not to be missed for the trade, to the point that beginning with last year’s edition the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium, the event’s organizer, decided to devote an entire day to these important partners.
And this year it will be precisely the trade to inaugurate the “Collection” on February 18, a day dedicated wholly to sector operators and experts. From 9:30 am to 6:30 pm (last admission at 5:30) members of the trade who registered online will be able to sample the labels of the more than 150 Chianti Classico wineries participating in the event.
On the following day the doors of the Stazione Leopolda (featuring interiors designed by architect Alessandro Moradei) will open to members of the press, who in two days (February 19 and 20) will be able to sample something like 500 labels of the latest vintages of Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva on the market, along with barrel previews of the 2012 and the IGTs made in Black Rooster territory.
As always, the “Collection” provides an occasion to talk about the latest news from the Chianti Classico DOCG, and the biggest at this twentieth edition are the changes to production regulationsforeseen in the “revamping” of the denomination recently approved by consortium members. These include the creation of a new type of Chianti Classico and restyling of the famous Black Rooster logo, both to be presented on Tuesday during the press conference to be held at the Leopolda at noon.

Sono passati vent’anni dalla prima “Anteprima del Chianti Classico”. Nel 1993 i giornalisti iscritti alla manifestazione si contavano in poche decine, oggi l’Anteprima, ribattezzata da qualche anno “Chianti Classico Collection”, registra anche per la sua ventesima edizione numeri che confermano come questa manifestazione sia diventata uno degli appuntamenti più importanti dell’agenda vitivinicola internazionale. Dal 18 al 20 febbraio nella suggestiva cornice della Stazione Leopolda di Firenze sarannocirca 200 i giornalisti accreditati provenienti da 29 paesi diversi paesi europei e extraeuropei: Italia; Danimarca; Spagna; Germania; Inghilterra; Polonia; Serbia; Olanda; Repubblica Ceca; Russia; Svezia; Norvegia; Austria; Ucraina; Finlandia; Francia; Belgio; Grecia; Svizzera; Croazia; USA; Giappone; Canada; Cina; Corea del Sud; Australia; India; Israele; Brasile.
Ma nel tempo la manifestazione è diventata un appuntamento imprescindibile anche per gli operatori del settore, tanto che dalla scorsa edizione il Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico, organizzatore della kermesse, ha deciso di dedicare un’intera giornata a questi importanti interlocutori. Quest’anno sarà proprio il trade, infatti, a inaugurare la “Collection” il 18 febbraio, in una giornata interamente dedicata a operatori e addetti ai lavori. Dalle 9.30 alle 18.30 (ultimo ingresso 17.30) gli operatori che si saranno iscritti sul form online presente nel sito potranno degustare le etichette delle oltre 150 aziende produttrici di Chianti Classico iscritte alla manifestazione.
Il giorno dopo le porte della Stazione Leopolda, anche quest’anno allestita secondo un progetto concordato con il Consorzio e firmato dall’architetto Alessandro Moradei, si apriranno per gli ospiti della stampa che in due giorni (19 e 20 febbraio) assaggeranno circa 500 etichette tra le ultime annate appena entrate in commercio di Chianti Classico annata, Chianti Classico Riserva, Anteprime da botte 2012 e IGT prodotti nel territorio del Gallo Nero.
La “Collection” come sempre offrirà l’occasione per comunicare gli argomenti più attuali della DOCG Chianti Classico e in particolare in questa ventesima edizione le ultime modifiche al disciplinare di produzione previste dal “riassetto” della denominazione recentemente approvato dall’Assemblea generale dei soci, che prevede una serie di novità importanti come la nascita di una nuova tipologia di Chianti Classico e un restyling del famoso logo del Gallo Nero, che sarà presentato martedì nel corso della conferenza stampa prevista per ore 12.00 alla Leopolda.
